Deer anatomy and shot placement - 2007/02/06 23:09 What did you think about the pictures that I posted in the shot placement and deer anatomy post? Do you think that the photos were real? Have you ever hit a deer in the dreaded "no kill zone"?

Let me hear your thoughts

I can attest that the photo you used was real! Luckily, I have not hit a deer in the "no kill zone".

Another area that can result in a kill, but obviously is not a prefered shot, is the hind quarter. last fall my nephew took a shot at an 8pt and the arrow deflected off a branch and struck the deer in center of the hind quarter. He saw the deer go down once then get up and go over an rise and into a "basin" area. We waited about 3 hrs then began to track the deer and found it piled up about 80 yards from where he first shot it. Like I said, this is not a ethical shot that should be attempted but did result in a kill by severing the large artery in the hind quarter.
