Leaf River IR3BU Infrared Digital Trail Camera

The Leaf River IR3BU Infrared trail camera has substituted the standard strobe flash with an infrared LED array that will illuminate the deer without spooking them.  The images are then captured by a 4 megapixel black and white camera that provides great pictures both day and night.  The game camera is also capable of taking video clips 24 hours a day.  The new Early Detection PIR Sensor has five detection zones to trigger the camera just after the deer enters the picture window which almost doubles the time allowed for the camera to capture the picture before the deer leaves and also allows you to get pictures of deer that might not cross the center of the picture.  The quick shot option also works well during the rut when bucks are chasing does.  It works by taking 3 sequential images immediately after one PIR trigger.  Checking your images can be done while the trail camera is still on location with the built in 1.6 inch preview screen. I bought a brand new LR from LR. Sent the camera back three times before they eventually sent me a new one which I received after the season was over.

Images taken with IR flash are grainy but as a scout tool are good enough for what I want. Day images are good quality but are not true color and some are b&w or a red hue but as I said are quite good quality overall. Programming is definitely not as easy as some trail cams but once learned is a breeze to setup. Test lamp is big and can be easily seen unlike some cameras. Camera mounted on a solid steel frame and with a 3/8" x 6' python cable/lock can be secured to virtually any size tree. I use 1Gb CF cards and swap out in the woods then bring home the old card to view on the PC. 400 event counter and can easily be reset.

Overall I think its not a bad mid price range cam and would probably by another.

I have found this camera less thn desirable. First the instructions are not large enough to read without a magnifying glass and then a re not reliable. There was no in info on what flash card to use. The picture quality is very low. In general, I was very dissappointed with this camera, especially at the price I paid. I have a couple of $99.00 dollar cameras I bought from Wal-Mart that are much easier to use, the batterys stay up longer, are the large square 6v ones, and the pictures are amazing and in color. I cn even use rechargable ones with a solar panel charger.
