I bought two Experts when they first came out; what a mistake. The company says you should get at least 500 pics on a set of batteries. After sending back about 10 of their cameras in the past couple years, I did a little expirement. I set one on my kitchen counter with fresh batteries so it was under ideal conditions. I got 186 pics before they were dead. In the woods, I usually only got about 150 pics before they were dead. The most recent one they sent me I put out in the woods with an old card. I checked it a few days later and I had one pic taken during the day that was purple. So I went and bought a new card and installed it. Checked it again and another purple pic showed up during the day. Sent the camera back and they told me their technician couldn't find anything wrong with it. WHAT! Asked for a new camera sent to me and haven't heard from them yet (that was a week ago now). This was the second camera out of the 10 or so that has done this. Checked them out with the Better Business Bureau and was not shocked to find that they had an unsatisfactory rating. I own a Camtrakker 35mm film camera that is over 10 yrs. old and had to send it in twice for repair; once for an electrical gremlin and once for some raccoon damage to the PIR. It gets as many pics on a set of batteries as the Experts do. How can a 10 yr. old film camera outperform a new digital camera? I would recommend looking at other manufacturers equipment before you spend your money on a Cuddeback. They are grossly overrated.

I have been using my Cuddeback Expert now for almost a year. I am very satisfied. Love the pictures. I have placed it on a trail and on an alfalfa field during the summer and early fall. Trigger speed was fast enough to get the deer.
Got mine at the Cabelas in Wheeling and have never had a problem with it, so never have had to call the company.
The batteries in cold weather don't last, but I figure if its 10 an below it takes a lot of power to get the flash. Now during warm weather I put batteries in during July when I put it up and used the same batteries until Mid-November. They were still working then, but I was moving the camera to a new spot and with the cooler temp and I wasn't going to check it for awhile.
I have not used but one other brand so I can't compare first hand much, but the Cuddeback provide my family and I another form of fun.
One of my few complaints would be the battery placement. You do have to take the camera off the tree to remove and put in new ones.

I have used over 15 deer cameras (6 different brands) over the past 6 years. The cuddeback expert provided very good pic quality, but had a very short battery life. I tried everything fro top of the line batteries to rechargeables. They were all the same, short-lived. I would recommend this camera for someone who places the cameras out close to home so they can replace batteries easily. However, for people like me who must travel several hours and usually leave the cameras in place for long periods of time, I would not recommend it. I returned mine based on this flaw.

Testing with a walking person, a person walking a horse and a tractor passing by the camera in first gear caused the camer flash to work, but shutter speed too slow to capture the subject. Just a nice view of the trail appeared in the picture. The only wildlife to trip the camera appears to be slow walking deer. Picture color and sharpness are lacking.

I own two of these cameras. The first one I purchase at Bass Pro Shops and it did not work out of the plastic. I sent back to Cuddeback when it returned worked perfect. The second one I purchased also from BPS and the flash would not work at night. One again sent back prompt customer service, works fine. Some may say man that is a lot of trouble from new out of the box cameras. My feeling is they are beat up in shipping and hanging on store pegs, getting dropped by potential buyers etc. The fact remains that once back from the factory these cameras work as advertised. Battery life in these is not nearly as long as my no flash but this camera is getting good quality night pics at over 40 feet versus my no flash at 10-15 feet. I cannot comment on video since I do not use that feature. As others have stated screwing it to tight to the tree will make a battery failure code, so just be easy its plastic. I feel these are great tools . I have six 512 flashcards and just change the cards. About every third or forth time the batteries get changed. Buy them at home depot or lowes for 10.69 for 12. The batteries that are rated a 1 on the strength meter will still run a maglight for quite some time. The incredible customer service is what led me to purchase the next camera. For a total of three. I have well over 1500.00 in these cameras and cards, that is a huge amount of money for me so it begs the question has it been worth it. The simple answer is yes. Spending big money on cameras that were sent back almost immediately was very frustrating. But now I am getting hundreds of pics weekly watching deer grow weekly. It has been an awesome experience.

This is the best digital cam I've used so far. I've have a couple of home brew 35's and several frieds have various digitals...leaf rivers...camtracker...stealths. Hands down the cudde is easier to use, has a way faster trigger, and is very quiet. I wish they would come up with a little better way to attach it to the tree. The screw deal is a great idea but its a little difficult for real world use. Thats my only complaint. One thing about it though it definitly won't get stolen with out a pair of manipulative bolt cutters. Good luck.
